An FIR has been registered against a social media handle for promoting a deepfake video of Ranveer Singh. A video of Ranveer, in which the actor can be seen voicing his political opinion, went viral on the internet last week. The video is actually a snippet from an earlier interview of the star, which seems to have been edited using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
Singh filed a police complaint last week, and the FIR was lodged for further investigation by the cyber crime cell. Soon after the video went viral, Ranveer warned his followers on Twitter by writing, “Deepfake se bacho, dostonnnn (Beware of deepfake, friends).” It may be mentioned here that a few days before Ranveer Singh’s deepfake video surfaced, a similar AI-generated clip of Aamir Khan in support of a political party went viral on the media.
