‘RATNAKAR’ OUTSHINES ‘KANCHANJANGHA’ TO BECOME BIGGEST ASSAMESE BLOCKBUSTER | 25 October, 2019

Ratnakar has turned out to be not just the biggest Assamese blockbuster but also the highest-grossing film of Assam circuit. It has surpassed the business of all previous Hindi, dubbed and regional language films, that too, in just two weeks.

Bahubali 2: The Conclusion (dubbed) was for long the biggest hit of Assam circuit. Its lifetime net collection total was Rs. 5 crore. However, Assamese film Kanchanjangha overtook the business of Bahubali 2: The Conclusion when it netted Rs. 5.17 crore in four weeks. Point to be noted is that while Hindi films are released all over Assam circuit including in Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh etc., Assamese films are restricted to the state of Assam only.

Even as Kanchanjangha, which opened on 6th September, was still running in the cinemas, Ratnakar opened to bumper houses on 11th October. Its opening weekend’s collections in Assam (Rs. 41 lakh on Friday, Rs. 49 lakh on Saturday, Rs. 55 lakh on Sunday) gave an indication that Ratnakar would definitely outdo Kanchanjangha. And it did so in just two weeks. The second week’s collections of Ratnakar were even better than the collections of the first week. As a result, Ratnakar netted Rs. 6.29 crore in just two weeks. In other words, it has overtaken Kanchanjangha by more than Rs. 1 crore, and it is still going strong at the turnstiles.

Interestingly, both the recent Assamese blockbusters are being distributed by Shankar Goenka and his son, Siddharth.
