REPEAT-RUN FILM OUTSHINES NEW RELEASES | 7 February, 2025

The new releases this week have disappointed big time. Loveyapa has opened to terribly weak houses. Badass Ravi Kumar is better at some places but that’s hardly saying much. Why, shows of both the films had to be cancelled in some cinemas due to lack of audience. And that’s saying a lot!

While this week’s releases spread gloom in the trade, what brightened the faces of the trade people were the box-office collections of a revived film, Sanam Teri Kasam. The love story, released in February 2016, had fared badly then in spite of its hit songs. Call it the magic of music or whatever, but the opening of the Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane starrer today (7th February) was so outstanding that several cinemas across the country increased the number of shows of the old film while reducing the shows of Badass Ravi Kumar and Loveyapa. Strange but true!

Going by the terrific collections and the increase in the number of shows, it shouldn’t be a surprise if Sanam Teri Kasam collected Rs. 6-7 crore today! When it was released on 5th February, 2016, it had netted Rs. 1.20 crore on the first day, Rs. 1.30 crore on the second day, and Rs. 1.40 crore on the third day. In other words, the first weekend’s total was just Rs. 3.90 crore. And the first week’s total was around Rs. 7.90 crore. Its total net collections for its entire run was not even Rs. 9 crore.
