RHEA CHAKRABORTY SEEKS PERMANENT RETURN OF PASSPORT | 4 September, 2025

Actress Rhea Chakraborty has approached the Bombay high court seeking modification of her bail conditions in the 2020 drugs case registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). In her interim application, she requested the court to return her passport for good and to relax the requirement of seeking prior permission from the trial court for every foreign trip she undertakes.

Rhea was arrested in September 2020 in connection with the case registered against her after actor Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide in June that year. In March 2025, almost five years since the death of Rajput, the CBI’s final report ruled out any foul play, confirming that it was a case of suicide, thereby clearing Rhea and her family of any wrongdoing.

The actress was granted bail by the high court in October 2020 and was required to deposit her passport with the NCB and seek permission from the special NDPS court before travelling abroad. Her application highlighted that several other co-accused in the case had already been granted permanent return of their passports with the condition of merely intimating the prosecution about their travel itineraries. Rhea sought similar relief.
