‘ROMEO S3’ REVIEW | 16 May, 2025

PEN Studios and Wild River Pictures LLP’s Romeo S3 (UA) is the story of a DCP who is after a deadly drug cartel. Chasing the story of the drug cartel is an investigative journalist. Their paths collide.

Sangram Singh Shekhawat (Thakur Anup Singh) is an upright and bold police officer. He wants to eliminate a dangerous drug cartel which also deals in spurious medicines, but his job is not easy. On the trail of the same drug cartel is investigative journalist Tanu (Palak Tiwari). How Sangram Singh Shekhawat exposes the drug cartel forms the crux of the drama.

The story is routine. It is similar to Tamil film Singam 3. Shailesh Verma’s screenplay is dull and routine. There is absolutely no novelty whatsoever in the drama. Predictable turns and twists mar the impact even further. Dialogues (by Shailesh Verma) are too ordinary to be true.

Thakur Anup Singh acts quite well as DCP Sangram Singh Shekhawat. Palak Tiwari is okay as journalist Tanu. Aman Dhaliwal is alright in the role of Jayant Makhija. Shivani Jadhav lends average support as Anushka, wife of Sangram Singh Shekhawat. Sachin Khedekar makes his presence felt as Praful Makhija. Rajesh Khatter has his moments as D’mello. Anant Jog is quite good as Leeladhar Sawant. Zakir Hussain is so-so as Zakir. Ganesh Yadav makes his mark as police inspector Vijay Kalshekhar. Gireesh Sahdev is okay as police inspector Bala Pandey. Subhash Sehgal is fair as home secretary Sabharwal. Smita Jayakar has her moments in the role of Goa chief minister Sudha. Ashish Warang is quite nice as hawaldar Francis. Amit Behl (as Shiv Chaudhary), Shaji Choudhary (as Yusuf), Sushil Parashar (as Prime Minister), Dinesh Kaushik (as home minister), Javed Haider (as Gustaad), Jennifer Christine Piccinato (as Monica, personal secretary to Praful Makhija), Beena Bhatt (as Tanu’s friend, Swati), Sanjay Gurbaxani (as the Indian delegate), Kamal (as the Pakistani delegate), Prachi Hada (as the rape victim), Jayesh Raj (as the main rapist), Abhishek Mishra, Nitish Rathore and Sachin Rastogi (all three as the other rapists), Surbhi Mittal (as the receptionist at Makhija Pharmaceutical), Raj Soni (as Umesh of the IT cell), Sergei (as the foreigner drug dealer), and the others are passable.

Guddu Dhanoa’s direction is not too inspiring. Music (Dilip Sen Sameer Sen and Harshit Saxena) is ordinary. Sameer’s lyrics are okay. Caesar Gonsalves’ choreography passes muster. Amar Mohile’s background music is average. Raju Kaygee’s cinematography is appealing. Tinu Verma’s action and stunt scenes are exciting. Ramakant Mahajan’s production designing, and Chetan Shikarkhane and Ramakant Das’ art direction are okay. Editing (by Rahul Gupta) is loose.

On the whole, Romeo S3 is a weak fare.

Released on 16-5-’25 at Metro Inox (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay by PEN Marudhar Cine Entertainment. Publicity & opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere.
