A day after actor Sandeep Nahar committed suicide at his flat at Goregaon in Bombay on 15th February, the police registered an abetment to suicide case against his wife, Kanchan, and her mother, based on the statements of his family and his video and ‘suicide note’ on social media. In the long suicide note, he had mentioned that his wife used to frequently fight with him and abuse him. He also accused his mother-in-law of constantly threatening him of legal consequences. Sandeep’s father and brother, who came down from Punjab, recorded their statements with the police. They will be taking the body to Punjab for the last rites.
According to the police, although Sandeep and Kanchan were together for two years, they formally got married in August 2020.
On the evening of 15th February, Sandeep locked himself in the room and when he didn’t open the door, his wife called a neighbour. When the door was broken open with the help of a carpenter, Sandeep was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a bedsheet. His wife took him to two hospitals where he was pronounced dead.
