‘SHAITAAN KI WAAPSI’ (DUBBED) REVIEW | 16 February, 2024

Released this week in Delhi-U.P. and East Punjab, Wonder Film Entertainment, Array Pictures and Zeus Films India’s Shaitaan Ki Waapsi (dubbed from the Cambodian film The Ritual: Black Nun or Voodoo Is Back; A) is a horror film.

Gabriel, an expat living in Siem Reap, Cambodia, commits a mistake which leaves a pregnant woman dead. To seek revenge, the woman’s husband performs a magical ritual on Gabriel and his wife. This curse later befalls Gabriel’s daughter-in-law, Sylvie. For the ritual to be complete, Sylvie is required to give life to the unborn child by a surgical birth at the enchanters’ own hands. What happens to Sylvie and her family?

The story is quite interesting. The screenplay has been written in a fashion which affords some thrill but it is also boring in parts. Besides, since the actors are not at all known, the drama fails to involve the viewers.

Performances of Kirty Marie Day, Brendan Gallagher, Robert Uwe Mueller and the others are average.

Visal Semsak’s direction is not upto the mark. Dyna Tha’s background music could’ve been better. Cinematography and other technical aspects are alright.

On the whole, Shaitaan Ki Waapsi is too ordinary a fare to do anything worthwhile at the turnstiles.
