Shin-Ei Animation’s Shinchan: Our Dinosaur Diary (animation; dubbed from Japanese film Crayon Shin-chan The Movie: Ora’s Dinosaur Diary) is about Shin-chan magic but with the added twist of dinosaurs which are out to create havoc in Japan.
Dinosaurs come alive in Japan. Shinnosuke and his friends grow close to one such dinosaur, Nana. Their unique bond is put to test when the mysterious Bubble Odoroki targets Nana.
Moral and Yoshito Usui’s story is fair, but only in the second half. The first half is slow-paced and boring. The duo’s screenplay has some exciting action, comedy and a dash of emotions, but all that may not mean much for the Hindi film-going audience because it is an animation film, at the end of the day. Animation films don’t have much of a market in India.
Performances of the animation characters and voice acting are fair. Shinobu Sasaki’s direction is okay. Animation is of a good standard. Music (Toshiyuki Arakawa, Hayato Matsuo and Akifumi Tada) is alright. Editing is loose. Dubbing is nice.
On the whole, Shinchan: Our Dinosaur Diary has some entertaining moments, but the box-office potential of the animation film appears weak.
