Producer-director Shiv Kumar passed away on 25th October at Brahmakumari Global Hospital in Bombay due to a recent age-related illness. He was 83. He is survived by his wife, two sons and their families.
Shiv Kumar had directed a number of films including Mitti Aur Sona, First Love Letter, Badnaam, Badkaar, Bud Naseeb, Be Aabroo, Begunah, Jaalsaaz, Sone Ki Zanjeer and Inteqam Ki Aag. He had produced three of his directorial ventures viz. Dagabaaz, Hum Tum Aur Woh and Ang Se Ang Lagaley.
Shiv Kumar Khurana was the first filmmaker who signed Vinod Khanna as hero. Before Hum Tum Aur Woh, Vinod used to play villain in films but Shiv Kumar saw the potential of a hero in him. Of course, Mere Apne, in which also Vinod Khanna played a positive role, was released before Hum Tum Aur Woh. Shiv Kumar launched Vindoo Dara Singh in Karan.
Shiv Kumar was an extremely fine human being and a through gentleman. He was soft-spoken.
His prayer meeting will be held tomorrow (28th October) from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Four Bungalows, Andheri (West), Bombay.
