SIKKIM FILM POLICY TO BOOST SHOOTINGS IN SIKKIM | 6 March, 2020

The Sikkim state government has formulated the Sikkim Film Policy, initially for a period of five years.

Under the Policy, a state-level Film Development Council will be established and it will be headed by a state government nominee. The Council will have as its members filmmakers, artistes and departmental officials. It will prepare plans to attract investment in the film sector. A film facilitation office will also be set up as a single-window clearance outfit.

A subsidy of Rs. 20 lakh will be given to all Sikkimese films made by local filmmakers if they meet the necessary criteria. A subsidy of Rs. 1 crore will be given to big-budget films if they are shot 75% or more in Sikkim.

The Policy also envisages development of film infrastructure, setting up of a film and television institute, and a media and entertainment hub in the state. The Policy also provides for setting up of theatres (miniplexes) and alternate exhibition forum.

Organising Sikkim Film Festival and Awards are also on the anvil.
