SPECIAL BENCH CONSTITUTED TO HEAR PILs RELATED TO HEMA COMMITTEE REPORT | 6 September, 2024

The Kerala high court on September 5 constituted a special division bench to take up sexual misconduct petitions related to the Justice K. Hema Committee report on women’s working conditions in the Malayalam film industry. Acting chief justice A. Muhamed Mustaque ordered the setting up of a special bench.

The bench comprises Justices A.K. Jayasankaran Nambiar and C.S. Sudha. Four more pleas linked to the report are pending in the high court. The government had earlier formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe sexual abuse allegations in the film industry, that came up soon after the Hema Committee report was released.
