SSR DRUGS CASE: COURT HOLDS CHARGES AGAINST 33 “WELL-FOUNDED” | 19 April, 2021

Taking cognisance of the chargesheet submitted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on March 5, the special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court recently observed that allegations against 33 accused, including actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother, Showik, in the drugs case in connection with the death of Sushant Singh Rajput were prima facie “well-founded”. The NCB invoked section 27A of the NDPS Act relating to illicit trafficking and harbouring of offenders. The stringent section attracts a minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a maximum of 20 years in jail.
