88 Pictures, 18th May Film Company, Planet Marathi and Maooli Production’s Tamasha Live (Marathi; UA) is the story about channel wars and how one channel even manipulates news to be one-up.
Ashwin (Sachit Patil) hosts a very popular daily show on a TV news channel. Shefali (Sonalee Kulkarni) wants to assist him because she is a fan of Ashwin but the latter insults her so badly that she decides to make it big on her own steam. One day, Shefali hits upon a crime story which catapults her to stardom in television reportage. Ultimately, Shefali and Ashwin work together.
Manish Kadam has written a story which does not offer much novelty as channel wars has been the subject matter of various earlier films, at least as one track. Kiran Yadnopavit’s development of the story is not very intelligent. Ditto for Sanjay Jadhav’s screenplay which loses steam after some time. Arvind Jagtap’s dialogues are alright.
Sachit Patil does well as Ashwin. Sonalee Kulkarni acts ably as Shefali. Siddharth Jadhav supports well as the sutradhar. Hemangi Kavi is alright as Nati. Aayushi Bhave is fair as Bhakti. Nagesh Bhosle lends reasonable support as MLA Dhupkar. Mrunal Deshpande is okay as Malinitai. Pushkar Jog (as film star Abhijeet), Bharat Jadhav (as the chief minister), Yogesh Soman (as Desalekar), Subodh Ghadge (as Appa Gosavi), Manmeet Pem (as Sunny), and Namish Chaphekar (as Pratap) are adequate.
Sanjay Jadhav’s direction, limited as it is by a terribly ordinary script, is just about fair. The film has 16 songs, which is a minus point although the songs are tuneful. None of the songs, composed by Amitraj and Pankaj Padghan, is a hit. Kshitij Patwardhan’s lyrics are very good. Umesh Jadhav’s choreography is alright. Pankaj Padghan’s background music is quite impactful. Camerawork (by Sanjay Jadhav and Jayprakash Gupta) is nice. Satish Chipkar’s art direction is okay. Editing (by Apurva Motiwale Sahay and Aashish Mharte) is quite crisp.
On the whole, Tamasha Live is not meant for today’s audiences as far as its presentation (with 16 songs) is concerned. As such, it will not be able to score at the box-office.
