Tamil film actor Vijay on February 2 announced his entry into politics. His party is called Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. He promised to put an end to corruption and caste- and religion-based divisive politics.
Vijay said, he had joined politics to repay “a debt to the people of Tamil Nadu”. In a press statement, the superstar said, his party would not contest or support any party in the Lok Sabha elections. “Our objective is to contest and win the 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu,” said the actor. “Obstacles to our unity and progress are administrative malpractice and corrupt politics on the one hand and a divisive political culture on the other.”
