Veteran star of Tamil and Telugu films, Sarath Babu, passed away today (22nd May) in AIG Hospital in Hyderabad due to multiple organ failure. He was 71 and had acted in more than 200 films in a career spanning more than 50 years.
Although he worked predominantly in Tamil and Telugu films, he also did some films in Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.
This was the second time this year that Sarath Babu was hospitalised. He was in hospital in March too. He had contracted sepsis recently, which affected his vital organs. He was on ventilator.
Among his well-known films are Annamalai, Mullum Malarum, Veliakkaran, Muthu and Netrikkan.
Satyam Babu Dixithulu started his acting career in 1973 with Telugu film Rama Rajyam. He got his big break in Tamil romantic drama Nizhal Nijamagiradhu in which he was cast alongside Kamal Haasan and Sumithra. His last film this year was the Tamil Vasantha Mullai. Many actors and trade people paid rich tributes to Sarath Babu on social media on hearing of his demise.
