‘TARAFA’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 6 May, 2022

Bhoomi Productions’ Tarafa (Marathi; UA) is about life and how everyone needs to strike a balance in life.

Ranja (Ashwini Kasar) and Kishya (Pankaj Khamkar) are in love with each other. But Ranja’s father, a police inspector (Milind Dastane), objects to the liaison because not only is Kishya the son of a farm labourer but he is also poor and unemployed. Ranja and Kishya decide to elope. Do they get married and live happily ever after?

Subodh Pawar has written a story that harbours on the philosophical. His story as well as his screenplay are dull and move at a slow pace. The twists and turns are predictable, to say the least. Consequently, the romance is far from heartwarming. Emotions fall flat on their face. Subodh Pawar’s dialogues are routine.

Ashwini Kasar does a dull job as Ranja. Pankaj Khamkar is alright as Kishya. Milind Dastane lends average support in the role of a police officer and Ranja’s father. Dilip Dombe, Shravani Solaskar, Bhumi Avinash Kudche and Gauri Avinash Kudche provide ordinary support.

Subodh Pawar’s direction is below the mark. Vijay Gatlewar’s music is routine. Lyrics (Subodh Pawar and Amruta) pass muster. Choreography (Pradeep Karlekar and Shardul Kunwar) is routine. Background music (scored by Vijay Gatlewar and Sandesh Hate) is functional. Raja Phadtare’s cinematography is good. Keshav Thakur’s sets are alright. Nilesh Navnath Gavand’s editing is so-so.

On the whole, Tarafa is a flop fare.

Released on 6-5-’22 at City Light (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru August Entertainment. Publicity & opening: poor.
