‘TENET’ WEEKEND COLLECTIONS WORLDWIDE BOOST INDUSTRY SPIRITS IN INDIA | 31 August, 2020

The first weekend’s gross collections of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet have instilled a new sense of hope and positivity in the film trade in India. Ever since the pandemic lockdown necessitated closure of cinemas all over the country, spirits in the film industry have been down because of the uncertainty about the date of their reopening and also about how long it would take the public to restart visiting cinemas. But the opening weekend’s collection figure ($53 million) of Tenet has come as great news because it is indicative of the fact that the audiences are willing to return to the cinemas. The coronavirus pandemic has affected the entire world, and different countries have had varying periods of lockdown. With the film yet to release in the US and China, $53 million is no mean box-office figure in these trying times. The Robert Pattinson starrer, which cost over $200 million to make, grossed $7.1 million in the UK, $6.7 million in France, $5.1 million in Korea, and $4.2 million in Germany. In all, it opened last weekend in 41 territories on 20,000-plus screens. It is due to release in the USA on 3rd September.
