‘THE LION KING’, ‘SUPER 30’ RULE BOX-OFFICE | 21 July, 2019

With none of the new Bollywood films appealing to the paying public, the weekend belonged to Hollywood’s The Lion King, and last week’s Super 30. While The Lion King roared at the turnstiles not just in English but also in Hindi (dubbed) in its first weekend, Super 30 recorded super collections in its second weekend too. Both would easily join the 100-crore club, given their performances at the box-office. Since the Sunday collection figure of Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30 is not yet out, one doesn’t know if it will touch the 100-crore mark tonight itself or it will do so tomorrow.

Super 30 netted Rs. 4.50 crore on the first day of the second weekend, indicating clearly that Saturday and Sunday would be far stronger. The Saturday figure of Rs. 8.75 crore, therefore, was not unexpected. As the film had collected Rs. 75.52 crore in the first week, the total for 9 days was Rs. 88.77 crore.

The Lion King collected Rs. 11.06 crore on the first day. Due to phenomenal public reports, collections on day 2 shot up to Rs. 19.15 crore, a growth of more than 70% over day 1, which must be a record for a film which opened in double-digit crores. In other words, the Hollywood animation film had netted Rs. 30.21 crore in two days.

Meanwhile, Jhootha Kahin Ka, Family Of Thakurganj, Penalty and Wig Boss, all released on Friday (19th July), turned out to be damp squibs at the ticket windows.
