The Bombay police on 22nd July claimed to have arrested the chain-snatcher who had stolen the gold chain of Marathi film actress Savita Malpekar on 19th July at Shivaji Park, Dadar in Bombay. The actress was out on a stroll after dinner when a man walked up to her and snatched her chain worth Rs. 65,000 under the guise of asking her the time. He fled with the chain within seconds. The police said, Savita put up resistance but sustained minor injuries and her clothes were ripped off in the tug-of-war.
The Shivaji Park police arrested the criminal after he came to the same spot to target others. The arrested accused has confessed to his crime and has identified Malpekar.
