TOLLYWOOD ACTRESS ARRESTED IN DRUGS CASE | 4 January, 2021

The Narcotics Control Bureau on 3rd January detained Tollywood actress Shwetha Kumari from a hotel at Bhayandar in Bombay for alleged drug possession. This followed the arrest of a drug dealer, Chand Mohammed Shaikh, from the Bandra Talao area at Bandra in Bombay on 2nd. The NCB seized 400 gms. of mephedrone worth Rs. 10 lakh from Shaikh.

During interrogation, Shaikh told NCB officials that he had procured the drugs from one Saeed from Bhayandar. Based on this information, the NCB carried out a search at the hotel where Saeed was staying but he managed to give them the slip. NCB officials then detained Shwetha who was in Saeed’s room. They recovered some substance from her and questioned her. She was later arrested.

The NCB had started a probe into the Bollywood-drug mafia nexus as an offshoot of the investigation into the drugs angle in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The arrest of Shaikh and the detention of Shwetha Kumari are part of that probe.
