TOP BANGLADESH ACTRESS ARRESTED OVER LAST YEAR’S PROTEST | 20 May, 2025

Bangladesh’s actress Nusraat Faria, who played ex-PM Sheikh Hasina in Shyam Benegal’s Mujib: The Making Of A Nation, was held at Dhaka airport on May 18 and sent to jail the following day in an attempt to murder case linked to last year’s anti-government protests. Nusraat was set to travel from Dhaka to Thailand but was held before she could board the plane. She was sent to jail on May 19 on a court order.

Seventeen actors, including Nusraat Faria, were named in an attempt to murder case filed on April 29.

Cultural affairs adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki called the arrest an “embarrassing incident”. The Muhammad Yunus government has been widely criticised over the arrest.
