The trade heaved a big sigh of relief this evening when Yash Raj Films announced its slate of five films which will hit the screens this year. Ever since cinemas reopened in October last year, after a seven-month closure prompted by the coronavirus pandemic lockdown, there has neither been any big release nor even an announcement of a big film’s release. Therefore, the announcement by YRF comes as music to the ears of the trade people.
The YRF slate will begin on 19th March with Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar which, incidentally, was slated for release last year. The Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra starrer is produced and directed by Dibakar Banerjee. Its worldwide distribution is by Yash Raj Films.
A little over a month after Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, on April 23, will release Yash Raj Films’ Bunty Aur Babli 2. Directed by Varun V. Sharma, the Bunty Aur Babli sequel stars Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi and newfind Sharvari.
Two months after Bunty Aur Babli 2, on June 25, will come YRF’s Shamshera, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt. It is directed by Karan Malhotra.
Jayeshbhai Jordaar, directed by new talent Divyang Thakkar and produced by Maneesh Sharma and Yash Raj Films, will come two months after Shamshera — on August 27. Ranveer Singh plays the title role in the film which co-stars Shalini Pandey, Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah.
YRF will release its Prithviraj on Diwali, November 5. The historical, directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, stars Akshay Kumar, Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood.
