‘WAR’ JOINS 200-CRORE CLUB IN 7 DAYS | 8 October, 2019

Everyone knew that it would happen but nobody must’ve expected it to happen so fast. War has joined the Rs. 200-crore club in just seven days of its release. Although the net collection for today (Tuesday, October 8) is awaited, it seems that the total for today would be around 25-30% more than that of Monday. The Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff starrer had netted Rs. 21.50 crore on Monday, which was the film’s sixth day as it had opened on Wednesday (October 2) to take advantage of the Gandhi Jayanti national holiday. Early indications suggest that the total for today (Tuesday, October 8) would be in the region of Rs. 27.50 crore. The collections are for all the three versions viz. Hindi, as also the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions.

The first five-day weekend for the film closed at Rs. 166.25 crore. By adding Rs. 21.50 crore to the kitty on Monday, the film took its total for six days to Rs. 187.75 crore. In other words, the film needed to net only Rs. 12.25 crore today to touch the Rs. 200-crore mark. If early indications are to be relied upon, the figure for today (which is the seventh day) would be Rs. 27.50 crore or more. That means, the film’s total would be approximately Rs. 215 crore by the end of the seventh day.

Aditya Chopra and Siddharth Anand definitely deserve all praise for not just making a super-hit film but also for promoting it the way they did. The initial would never have been what it was, had it not been for the stupendous promotion of the action thriller. It is now almost a certainty that Yash Raj Films would make a sequel to War. If one recalls, Hrithik Roshan says towards the end of the film that Khalid (Tiger Shroff) rather than he himself (Kabir) should be given credit for the war on terrorists so that people would continue to assume that he (Kabir) had gone rogue. This is quite a giveaway that the producers have a sequel in mind. And after the way the film has fared, a sequel looks like a given.
