Diwali 2019 proved to be a blessing for Housefull 4 but it turned out to be a bane for the other Diwali release – Saand Ki Aankh. Not Diwali per se, but the fact that Saand Ki Aankh opened in direct opposition of Housefull 4 proved detrimental to the interests of the film.
Collections of Housefull 4 shot through the roof on the day after Diwali. Such a jump in collections has rarely been seen: it collected Rs. 16.50 crore on the first day (which was a pre-Diwali day), and Rs. 33.50 crore on the fourth day (New Year’s day). Indeed, Diwali came like a magic wand for the fourth film in the Housefull franchise.
While collections of Saand Ki Aankh did show a perceptible rise on New Year, the overall performance of the film was not remarkable if only because the public’s first choice remained Housefull 4.
Had Saand Ki Aankh not released last week and had, instead, come on a week without any major opposition, it probably could’ve fared better. No doubt, the film collected decent figures post-Diwali but it may have collected better had it come in a lesser (than Diwali) week but solo. So, releasing the film on Diwali may have done some good to the collections in the latter part of the week but if the film had not released on Diwali alongside the big-budget multi-star cast Housefull 4, it just may have yielded better results.
As for Made In China, the film’s reports were so negative that even if it had to be the solo Diwali release, it couldn’t have done much better at the box-office.
