FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER: THE NEW DIWALI, EID, CHRISTMAS? | 11 December, 2025

This one is quite a coincidence.

The first week of December for the last three years has turned out to be a bountiful week for Bollywood — at least as far as the box-office is concerned.

This year saw Dhurandhar releasing on 5th December. Not only did the film open very well but its collections swelled so much that it is on its way to becoming a veritable blockbuster.

The first week of December last year gave the Hindi film industry its biggest blockbuster ever. Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (dubbed), released on 5th December, 2024, ended up netting Rs. 762 crore in its lifetime!

Year 2023 was no different. Animal, another runaway hit, hit the screens in the first week — and actually, on the first day — of December. It is common knowledge that Animal, with its net lifetime total of Rs. 495 crore, is also one of the big blockbusters of Hindi cinema. All the versions (including the dubbed versions) together netted Rs. 555 crore!

So what’s it about the first week of December? While producers clamour to release their films on Eid, Diwali or Christmas, or target the Independence Day or the Republic Day weekends, it is actually the first week of the last month of the year, which is turning out to be the week to aim for.

Three blockbusters in three consecutive years cannot be overlooked. Even if it’s a coincidence, it’s a very happy one!
