ARIJIT SINGH ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM PLAYBACK SINGING, LEAVES FANS CRESTFALLEN | 28 January, 2026

Ace playback singer Arijit Singh shocked his fans when he announced recently on social media that he had decided to quit playback singing. In an Instagram post, Arijit thanked fans for their love and said that he was “calling it off”. His note read: “Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”

The singer made a similar announcement in a series of tweets on his private X account. He also said, “God has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music and in future will be learning more on my own as a small little artist. Thanks again for all your support.”

Arijit, however, clarified that he would not stop making music. “Just to be clear that I won’t stop making music,” one post of his mentioned. The singer has still to finish some pending commitments.

Arijit is also a music composer, music producer and instrumentalist. He started his career by participating in reality television show Fame Gurukul in 2005. His first film song was Phir mohabbat karne chala from Murder 2.
