Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter and aide of jailed Dera Sachcha Sauda chief and writer-producer-director-actor Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was granted bail on 6th November by the chief judicial magistrate of Panchkula in Haryana. The court accepted a bond of Rs. 2 lakh and granted her bail. Soon thereafter, she was released from Ambala Central Jail, where she had been lodged since October 2017.
Honeypreet had gone into hiding for 38 days before her arrest in 2017. She had been charged with criminal conspiracy and sedition in the case of Panchkula violence which broke out when Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted and arrested in two rape and murder cases.
Earlier, on 2nd November, a local court at Panchkula dropped the sedition charges against Honeypreet Insan and 35 other accused in the violence in 2017. Additional district and sessions judge Sanjay Sandhir, however, framed charges against Honeypreet and others under other sections of the IPC for the violence in Haryana. The charges were framed under various sections related to unlawful assembly and criminal conspiracy.
