A high alert was sounded in Maharashtra on November 2 after a series of emails threatened to cause bomb explosions across court houses in Bombay, Thane, Palghar, Pune, Satara, Hingoli, Beed, Nanded, Nagpur, Chandrapur and Amravati and other districts. The sender allegedly threatened to target a November 27 programme by singer Diljit Dosanjh at Mahalaxmi Race Course in Bombay by “concealing an IED inside an iPhone. The emails claimed to represent Babbar Khalsa, Khalistani Army and National Army.
A few days earlier, city mayor Ritu Tawde’s office had received an email warning of attacks at various places, including Amitabh Bachchan’s residence and Diljit’s November concert.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant on November 2 questioned the need for Amitabh Bachchan to shield himself with a bullet-proof glass screen during his public darshan on last Sunday (November 1). It is usual for Bachchan to make an appearance to wave out to the public every Sunday, but it was unexpected to see him greet fans from behind a bullet-proof glass screen at his Juhu residence. The shield appeared two weeks after actor Tiger Shroff was shot at in Juhu, an attack for which the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility. Sawant asked whether it was a gangster-related threat which necessitated this change, and blamed the Centre for the worsening law and order situation.
