The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Bombay police on September 13 recorded the statement of businessman Raj Kundra, husband of actress Shilpa Shetty, in connection with a Rs. 60.40 crore cheating case. Raj was questioned for more than five hours at an undisclosed location. His statement will be verified with the statements of other witnesses, and he is likely to be summoned again next week.
The case was registered on a complaint filed by Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Finance Services. It alleges that Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra and others duped him through a loan-cum-investment deal linked to their now defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt. Ltd. Kothari alleged that he invested funds between 2015 and 2023 to help expand their business, but the money was allegedly used for their personal expenses.
Although a Lookout Circular (LOC) has been issued against both, Raj and Shilpa, the actress has not been summoned as yet as evidence is still being collected.
