EVENT ORGANISER IN BANGALORE DIRECTED BY COURT TO PAY IPRS LICENCE FEES | 8 June, 2019

The city civil and sessions court in Bangalore on 31st May granted an ad interim injunction in favour of The Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS) against an event organiser, Antardhwani, in relation to a live music event, ‘The Kings Of Rhythm-2’. The event was scheduled for 31st May in Bangalore. The case came up before the court on 30th May.

The IPRS told the court that Antardhwani did not respond to its legal notices and letters sent to it, calling upon it to not perform without obtaining licence from the IPRS, despite the fact that it had in the past obtained licences from the IPRS. Antardhwani was to have Biju Nair and team perform songs of O.P. Nayyar and R.D. Burman. Antardhwani subsequently paid IPRS the licence fee as desired by the court.

IPRS had also instituted a law suit against Vodafone before the Calcutta high court. The court directed Vodafone to deposit Rs. 2.5 crore with the court registry.
