EXCESS LAND BEING GIVEN TO DEVELOPER FOR FILM CITY REVAMP? | 6 April, 2019

While the Maharashtra state government is in the process of inviting bids from private players to redevelop 211 acres of the 521 acres land in Film City, Goregaon, Bombay, RTI documents have shown that a senior officer had in 2017 raised concerns about the quantum of land to be given to the developer. The then additional chief secretary (accounts and treasury), Vandana Krishna, had suggested that 50-75 acres be given to the developer and also that the land be given over in three stages to ensure smooth execution of the project. The government plans to transform Film City into a state-of-the-art hub for filmmaking and cinema tourism along the lines of Universal Studios in Hollywood.
