Choreographer Ganesh Acharya was on 5th February booked by the Amboli (Bombay) police for alleged molestation, sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation. The case was later transferred to the Oshiwara police station as the alleged incident took place in his office at Millat Nagar in 2009 and 2010 when Ganesh made an assistant choreographer watch porn clips in his office. Two women, Jayashree Kelkar and Preeti Lad, were also named in the FIR. A case was registered under IPC sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354C (watching, or capturing the image of a woman engaging in a private act), 354D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
Ganesh Acharya refuted the claims and said that the complaint was part of a larger conspiracy against him by people who have decided to tarnish his reputation. He added that these people control trade unions in the film industry and that his stand against them and in the interest of the dancers was causing them losses.
The complainant had approached the state Women’s Commission last month, alleging harassment by Acharya.
