The Bombay high court has restrained actor-producer Vidnyan Mane from making defamatory remarks against music director Palash Muchhal, noting that the former’s comments regarding an incident which occurred before the latter’s scheduled wedding to cricketer Smriti Mandhana were “insinuating and defamatory”. In a recent interview, Mane had commented about the incident which ultimately resulted in the marriage being called off.
A copy of the order was made available on February 13.
Mane, a resident of Sangli, had approached the police last month to complain that Muchhal had allegedly cheated him of Rs. 40 lakh by making him invest in a film project which did not ultimately take off, and didn’t return his money.
Palash filed a suit against Vidnyan Mane, seeking damages and a permanent injunction for making defamatory statements against him and his family. The court ordered Mane to restrain from making any further references and insinuations of the kind and nature attacking the plaintiff (Palash Muchhal) and his mother, which were made in the said interviews and which were prima facie defamatory.
