Malayalam film actor and junior union minister for petroleum and tourism Suresh Gopi expressed a desire to make way for a fellow MP from Kerala to take his place so that he can continue his film assignments. “I wanted to continue acting and earn a lot… There are at least a few who depend on my earnings… To help at least some of them, those earnings shouldn’t stop. Now, that has stopped in a big way…,” said Gopi at a BJP event in Kannur on October 11.
He suggested the name of newly nominated Rajya Sabha member C. Sadanandan Master as a replacement for him in the government. This was the first time Gopi had made public his request to be freed of ministerial responsibilities. He had so far aired his wish internally. “I am saying earnestly that if I am excused, and if he (Sadanandan) is made a minister, it will mark a new political history in Kerala,” said Suresh Gopi.
