Regal Talkies in Indore could not get any respite from the commissioner’s court as its appeal was dismissed on 22nd October. The cinema was taken over by the Indore Municipal Corporation on 17th September this year. The cinema owners appealed to the commissioner’s court which held that due process of law had been followed by the Corporation.
The cinema had been at the centre of a controversy since long as the Corporation had terminated its lease agreement in 2008. The land on which the cinema stood had been given to the cinema on lease in 1930. The cinema started in 1934 and had been running since then.
The cinema owners had filed a writ petition in the Madhya Pradesh high court, seeking a stay on the Corporation’s action to take over the cinema. However, the court dismissed the writ. On 22nd October, the commissioner’s court also refused to grant the cinema owners any relief.
