Singer Alka Yagnik was conferred the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honours. Bengali and Hindi film actor Prosenjit, and Tamil and Hindi film actor R. Madhavan have both been conferred the Padma Shri. The awards were announced on the eve of Republic Day.
Veteran Gujarati film actor and director Arvind Vaidya was honoured with the Padma Shri. Actor and former scientist Dr. Anil Rastogi has also been given the Padma Shri.
Actors Dharmendra and Satish Shah were posthumously honoured with the Padma Vibhushan. Malayalam film actor Mammootty got the Padma Bhushan.
