PAROLE FOR GURMEET RAM RAHIM SINGH UNLIKELY, VICTIMS’ KIN TO OPPOSE PLEA | 29 June, 2019

The Punjab and Haryana high court may not grant parole to Dera Sacha Sauda chief and actor, writer, producer and director Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh due to mounting pressure to not consider his plea for parole for 42 days to do farming in Sirsa. He had applied for parole for his foster daughter’s wedding in April-end but withdrew it after the CBI objected to it in the Haryana court.

Gurmeet was convicted in August 2017 for raping two sadhvis and sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the CBI court in January 2019 for murdering journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati in 2002. The slain journalist’s family and victims of castration in the Dera headquarters are crying hoarse that they will oppose the parole plea as they fear for their lives and envisage a law and order problem if Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is granted parole.
