PAYAL ROHATGI DETAINED FOR ANTI-NEHRU POST | 17 December, 2019

The Rajasthan police picked up actress Payal Rohatgi on 15th December from her Ahmedabad residence for interrogation over an offensive video she allegedly posted in September on a social media site about the Nehru-Gandhi family, including first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Although Payal was not formally arrested, an FIR was registered against her on 10th October under the Information Technology Act at Sadar police station at Bundi in Rajasthan. Following the police notice, Payal Rohatgi applied for anticipatory bail on 12th December.

While the Bundi police claimed that Payal was not cooperating with them for investigation and hence had to be detained, she herself tweeted on the morning of 15th December that the Rajasthan police had arrested her for making a video on Motilal Nehru. After making the video by taking information from Google, Payal had tendered a public apology from her Twitter account. The action against Payal began after Charmesh Sharma, the state youth Congress general secretary and a resident of Bundi, made a complaint.
