Shah Rukh Khan was recently conferred a Doctor of Letters by Australian university La Trobe. He was felicitated for the work on gender empowerment undertaken by his organisation, Meer Foundation (named after his late father, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan). The Foundation works with acid attack survivors and children.
The university vice chancellor, John Dewar, said, “Mr. Khan is a champion of societal change, whose efforts to support the equality of women in India reflect La Trobe’s values of inclusiveness, equity and social justice.”
The university will organise an awards ceremony and a fireside chat with Shah Rukh Khan, and donate the proceeds from ticket sales for the event, to Meer Foundation.
