WRITER-DIRECTOR SANJIV PURI DEAD | 8 March, 2026

Writer-director Sanjiv Puri breathed his last on 6th March at his residence in Bombay. He was alone at home at the time of his death as his wife was in Chandigarh while his only daughter, writer Niharika Puri, was in Calcutta.

Minutes before the end came, Sanjiv had conveyed to his daughter over phone that he would see her at Bombay airport the next morning on her return from Calcutta. This gives the impression that the end came very suddenly.

Sanjiv, who was in perfect health, was finding it difficult to breath that evening. His neighbours rushed him to hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was cremated the following day (on 7th).

Among the films written and/or directed by Sanjiv Puri are Baa Baaa Black Sheep, Aksar 2, Dreams – Sapnay Sach Honge, Aan – Men At Work, Agnipankh and Sar Ankhon Par.

A prayer meeting in his memory will be held on 9th March from 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. in Bombay at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, J.P. Road, Four Bungalows, Andheri West.
