Columbia Pictures’ Bad Boys For Life (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; A) is the next film in the Bad Boys film series.
Miami detective Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) wants to retire after the birth of his grandson. He expresses his desire to his partner, Mike Lowrey (Will Smith).
Mike is shot at by assassin Armando (Jacob Scipio) and is battling death. Over the next six months, Mike recovers but Armando has killed almost everyone responsible for the demise of the Aretas cartel run by Armando’s parents, Isabel (Kate del Castillo) and Benito.
Since Marcus had vowed to quit the world of violence if Mike survived, he goes into retirement, leading to a fallout between him (Marcus) and Mike.
But Marcus and Mike ultimately join forces to put an end to evil.
Peter Craig and Joe Carnahan have written a story in which action is a key character. There is a lot of violence in the screenplay penned by Chris Bremner, Peter Craig and Joe Carnahan. The drama is interesting in parts and confusing at places. Overall, the screenplay offers very little novelty, because of which the drama becomes predictable.
Will Smith does a fine job as Mike Lowrey. Martin Lawrence is good as Marcus Burnett. Vanessa Hudgens is impactful as Kelly. Jacob Scipio is good as Armando. Alexander Ludwig leaves a mark as Dorn. Charles Melton lends decent support as Rafe. Paola Núñez is alright as Rita. Kate del Castillo makes her presence felt as Isabel Aretas. Nicky Jam (as Zway-Lo) acts ably. Joe Pantoliano leaves an impression as Captain Conrad Howard. Theresa Randle (as Marcus’ wife) and the others do as desired..
Adil & Bilall’s direction is alright. Robrecht Heyvaert’s cinematography is very nice. Action scenes are impactful. Visual effects are remarkable. Editing (Dan Lebental and Peter McNulty) is quite sharp but the film should’ve been crisper. Dubbing is alright.
On the whole, Bad Boys For Life is an ordinary fare.
