GUNWALI DULHANIYA | 18 May, 2019

Buddha Telefilms, KS Media and Passion-World Entertainments’ Gunwali Dulhaniya (UA) is the story of a girl who is not what she appears to be.

Sharmili (Kanchan Awasthi) is the daughter of Le Lo Rai (Brijendra Kala). The father dotes on her. He fixes her marriage with the son of his retired police officer-friend, Rathod (Gajendra Chauhan). But Sharmili is kidnapped on the day of the wedding, before the marriage can be solemnised. A letter, handwritten by Sharmili for her father, indicates that she has herself run away to marry her boyfriend, Kapil (Vivek Singh).

What is the truth about Sharmili’s disappearance? Have Sameer (Mayur Kumar) and Lakhan (Elvis Chaturvedi) kidnapped her? Or has Sharmili run away to avoid getting married? Why does kidnapping don Bhaiyyaji telephone Le Lo Rai for ransom money?

Shantanu Anant Tambe’s story and screenplay are so idiotic that the less spoken about them the better. The drama is silly and hardly holds the audience’s attention. Rather, it serves to bore the viewers. His dialogues are pedestrian.

Kanchan Awasthi is not heroine material. Her acting is dull. Brijendra Kala tries to be earnest and succeeds at times. Gajendra Chauhan is ordinary in the role of Rathod. Vivek Singh does a routine job as Kapil. Mayur Kumar (as Sameer) and Elvis Chaturvedi (as Lakhan) lend dull support. Govind Namdeo has his moments. Shravani Goswami (as Bua), Tushar Acharya (as Bablu Kabootar) and Dolly Kaushik (as Namrata) are dull.

Shantanu Anant Tambe’s direction is poor. Music (Aslam Surty and Sumit Kumar) and lyrics (Shantanu Anant Tambe and Neetu Pandey) are functional. Aslam Surty’s background score hardly deserves mention. Camerawork (Hitesh Beldar) is commonplace. Dinesh Shinde’s art direction is so-so. Mukesh Thakur’s editing leaves plenty to be desired.

On the whole, Gunwali Dulhaniya is a flop show.
