HACKED | 7 February, 2020

Zee Studios and Loneranger Productions Pvt. Ltd.’s Hacked (A) is the story of a hacker.

Sameera Khanna (Hina Khan) works as the editor of a fashion magazine. Vivek (Rohan Shah) lives in her housing society and secretly loves her. Rohan Mehra (Mohit Malhotra) is Sameera’s childhood friend, and he, too, lives in the same society. Sameera is in love with film star Om Kapoor (Sid Makkar).

Vivek is a hacker who troubles girls by hacking their phones and laptop computers. Because of his hacking, Sameera even loses her job. Sameera and Rohan decide to teach Vivek a lesson but Sameera ends up murdering Vivek. However, Vivek’s hacking action saves Sameera from the clutches of law. How this happens is shown in the climax.

Vikram Bhatt has written a fairly engaging story but there’s nothing excellent about it. The last twist about Vivek’s hacking helping Sameera escape the arm of law is the best point in the story. Vikram Bhatt’s screenplay is quite interesting but there are no major high points in the drama. At places, the screenplay appears to be too convenient to be true. Dialogues, penned by Vikram Bhatt and Srivinay Salian, are so-so.

Hina Khan acts well as Sameera Khanna. Rohan Shah performs excellently as Vivek. Mohit Malhotra is okay as Rohan Mehra. Sid Makkar is fair as Om Kapoor. Pravina Deshpande provides average support as Vivek’s grandmother. Sheetal Dabholkar is adequate as Sameera’s immediate boss, Nandini. Garrvil Mohan is okay as Dr. Ravi Sinha. Tanvi Thakkar lends ordinary support as Riya.

Vikram Bhatt’s direction is okay. Music (Jeet Ganguli, Arko, Amjad-Nadeem, Amir, Chirantan Bhatt and Sunny Inder) is commonplace. Lyrics (Arko, Amjad-Nadeem, Shakeel Azmi, Manoj Yadav and Kumaar) are routine. Shabina Khan’s choreography is just about passable. The background score is nothing to shout about. Prakash Kutty’s camerawork is nice. Abbas Ali Moghul’s action and stunts are just about okay. Kuldip Mehan’s editing is quite crisp.

On the whole, Hacked is an average entertainer but lack of faces in the cast and poor promotion will come in the way of realisation of its potential.

Released on 7-2-’20 at Inox (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay by Zee Studios. Publicity & opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere.
