Frames Production Company and Nitin Vaidya Production’s Kaaal (Marathi; UA) is a horror film.
Rahul (Satish Gejage) is an educated boy who works in Pune. He loves to upload horror videos on the Internet. His friend, Yogesh (Sanket Vishwasrao), often helps him in making and uploading videos.
One day, farm house owner Deshmukh asks Rahul to go to his farm house to assess if there’s a ghost there. His wife has committed suicide at the farm house. Rahul, Yogesh and two more friends — Ganesh (Shreyas Behere) and Anil (Rajkumar Jarange) — reach the farm house. Soon, Rahul realises that there’s a spirit in the farm house. The spirit starts troubling the four friends. Rahul now takes it upon himself to solve the mystery of the ghost. His friends want to leave but Rahul must get to the bottom of the ghost story.
D. Sandeep has written a kiddish horror story which hardly scares the audience. His screenplay is not at all convincing or engaging. Even his dialogues are pretty dull.
Satish Gejage is ordinary as Rahul. Sanket Vishwasrao is not very impressive as Yogesh. Shreyas Behere goes through the role of Ganesh in a routine manner. Rajkumar Jarange is dull in the role of Anil. Vaibhavi Chavan does an average job as Tina. Others lend dull support.
D. Sandeep’s direction is weak. Agnel Roman’s music and background score are barely passable. Digvijay Thorat’s camerawork is hardly worth mentioning separately. Sets (Swapnil Kamawat, Vishal Mhaske and Omkar Nayak) are commonplace. D. Sandeep’s editing leaves plenty to be desired.
On the whole, Kaaal is a poor fare.
Released on 31-1-’20 at Bharatmata (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Runaway-Luminosity Distribution. Publicity & opening: poor.
