MAKEUP (Marathi) | 7 February, 2020

Soham Rockstar Entertainment, Bala Industries And Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., Green Apple Media and Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd.’s Makeup (Marathi; UA) is the story of a girl who loves to do makeup on people.

Purvi (Rinku Rajguru) is a makeup artiste. She loves her makeup artiste-colleague, Ajay (Ganesh Pandit), and hence turns down all marriage proposals. One such marriage proposal is from Neil (Chinmay Udgirkar) who is a doctor. Although Purvi gets along well with Neil, she explains to him that she loves Ajay and so can’t marry him (Neil). The considerate Neil doesn’t force her to marry him.

Purvi runs away and gets married to Ajay. Soon after marriage, Ajay meets with an accident and slips into coma. How Neil helps Purvi not just in hospital but also in raising money to fund his surgery abroad is the crux of the latter part of the drama.

Sujoy K. Roy has written a story which is slightly emotional and has drama too. But the second half is not as engaging as the pre-interval portion. The climax is a letdown. Sujoy K. Roy and Ganesh Pandit’s screenplay keeps the audience involved intermittently but not throughout. At places, the screenplay looks abrupt. Ganesh Pandit’s dialogues are ordinary.

Rinku Rajguru does a fine job as Purvi. Chinmay Udgirkar looks handsome and acts well. Pratiksha Lonkar lends fine support as Purvi’s mother. Milind Safai is good as Purvi’s father. Tejpal Wagh makes his presence amply felt as Purvi’s brother. Ganesh Pandit gets limited scope and is alright as Ajay. Rajan Tamhane is okay as Neil’s father. Sumukhi Pendse has her moments as Neil’s mother. Swati Bowalekar is average as Purvi’s grandmother.

Ganesh Pandit’s direction is so-so. Music (A.V. Prafulachandra and Dhirendra Mulkalwar) is commonplace. Lyrics (Vaibhav Deshmukh and Mangesh Kangane) are routine. Vitthal Patil’s choreography is average. Mangesh Dhakde’s background score is fair. Suman Sahu’s camerawork is ordinary. Mahesh Laxman Kore’s sets are nothing to shout about. Editing (Apurva Motiwale Sahai and Ashish Mhatre) is quite sharp.

On the whole, Makeup is too ordinary a fare to make a mark at the ticket windows.
