‘PROJECT HAIL MARY’ (DUBBED) REVIEW | 26 March, 2026

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Lord Miller Productions, Pascal Pictures, Open Invite Films and Waypoint Entertainment’s Project Hail Mary (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; UA) is a science fiction film.

Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) is a science teacher and molecular biologist. He awakens from a coma on a spacecraft. Government agent Eva Stratt (Sandra Hüller) recruits Grace and other scientists to study Astrophage which is a micro-organism that is exponentially increasing its population on the Sun’s surface. Stratt discloses Project Hail Mary, a plan to send a crew on a suicide mission to Tau Ceti, the only undimmed star nearby. What happens to the mission?

The film is based on Andy Weir’s book of the same name. The story is good but it is also confusing. Drew Goddard’s screenplay is fair but it becomes complicated as well as predictable after a point of time.

Ryan Gosling acts ably as Ryland Grace. Sandra Hüller performs well in the role of Eva Stratt. Voice acting of character Rocky is reasonably good. Others provide decent support.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s direction is okay. The director duo has not been able to simplify the narration enough for all strata of audience to enjoy. Daniel Pemberton’s background music is nice. Greig Fraser’s cinematography is of a fine standard. Charles Wood’s production designing is very good. Editing (by Chris Dickens and Joel Negron) is sharp but should’ve been tighter. Dubbing is alright.

On the whole, Project Hail Mary is an ordinary fare.
