Illumination and Nintendo’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (animation; dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; UA) is an animated adventure comedy film based on video game Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, as well as Nintendo’s broader Mario franchise. It is a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023).
Mario ventures into space, exploring cosmic worlds and tackling galactic challenges far from the familiar Mushroom kingdom.
Matthew Fogel’s story is long-winding and often predictable. His screenplay doesn’t keep the audience engaged for long because the fun element in the drama is limited. There are so many characters in the drama that it often gets confusing for the viewers. Climax is ordinary.
The voice acting is fair, generally speaking.
Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Pierre Leduc and Fabien Polack’s direction is average. Brian Tyler’s music is fair. The animation is of a good standard. Eric Osmond’s editing is loose. Dubbing is alright.
On the whole, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is too ordinary to make any mark at the box-office.
Released on 2-4-’26 at Movie Time Goregaon (3D; daily 1 show) and some cinemas, and on 3-4-’26 at Gemini (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Warner Bros. Pictures (India) Pvt. Ltd.
