Promodome Motion Pictures’ Uttar Da Puttar (UA) is the story of a Physics professor who is obsessed with astrology and vaastu. He believes that there exists a planetary solution to every problem. He is in search of a perfect North-facing home for a perfect life, but life refuses to go by his ‘designs’.
Sandip Kapur’s story is not very interesting for a film and seems more appropriate for a TV serial. The screenplay, penned by Ravinder Siwach, is entertaining at times, but it appears too stretched at other times. Overall, the drama loses quite a bit of its entertainment value because it is too lengthy for the thin story-line. Ravinder Siwach’s dialogues are good but only at places.
Annu Kapoor acts very well. Rukhsar Rehman is natural. Brijendra Kala is quite entertaining. Pawan Malhotra has his moments. Sumit Gulati makes his mark. Jeeveshu Ahluwalia creates an impact. Rajendra Sethi lends decent support. Ishtiyak Khan is adequate. Naseer Abdullah is natural. Nitin Arora is alright. Others do as desired.
Ravinder Siwach’s direction is so-so. Rohit Sharma’s background music should’ve been more effective. Udaysingh Mohite’s camerawork is okay. Editing (by Tanupriya Sharma) should’ve been sharper.
On the whole, Uttar Da Puttar will go largely unnoticed in the cinemas.
