Television actor Rohit Chandel, who played Bajirao in Kashibai Bajirao Ballal, and Dhawal Makwana in Pandya Store, was arrested by the Bombay police for allegedly stalking, repeatedly calling, harassing and assaulting a 16-year-old girl in an Eastern suburb of Bombay. The police booked the 29-year-old actor under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The Pant Nagar police station also invoked BNS sections 78 and 115 (2) for stalking and causing hurt.
Chandel was arrested from his home at Dahisar on July 10 and produced before the special POCSO court which remanded him to police custody.
Reportedly, Chandel allegedly repeatedly called the minor on her cell phone from his number as well as from several other numbers, harassing her. The complaint further alleged that on July 5, the actor confronted the girl near her house, chased her, picked up an argument with her, abused her and assaulted her by hitting her. The police said, the minor and the accused were acquainted. Further probe is on in the case.
