Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik said yesterday (14th December) that he had sent a breach of privilege notice to the Maharashtra legislative assembly speaker Nana Patole against Kangana Ranaut and several media and social media outlets for claiming that Pakistani credit cards had been found by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at his residence. Sarnaik said, the actress’ remarks were defamatory. The MLA is under investigation by the ED.
Sarnaik had earlier been critical of Ranaut’s statement comparing Bombay with PoK. He had also initiated a breach of privilege motion against Republic TV founder Arnab Goswami for his remarks against chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and other ministers of the MVA government.
According to procedure, the speaker is required to examine the notice and decide whether to forward it to the privileges committee. It is the committee which then examines it and makes recommendations. Kangana Ranaut already faces breach of privilege motion in the state council for her PoK comment. That motion was moved by Congress leader Ashok Jagtap.
